    Introduction

    Game Lobo, a well-known Japanese underground/hacking magazine posted a
FF8 'Programmers Code' or debug in their April issue. Though this code
is meant for the imported version of Final Fantasy VIII, the US
version's code will soon be discovered -- after it's release. On with
    the guide!

(Note: Both Japan and US versions have completely the same debug
    functions)

These codes are in Gameshark format. They are compatible with most
versions. Ones that I have tried are 3.1 and 2.4. After loading the
code the game will start. Load any saved game (preferably one where
you're either in a town or outside one). Go in the town and....

    Japanese Version: Press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 all once.
    US Version: Press Select + L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 all once.

The screen should fade and the debug mode will begin.

    II. Area One

Squall (you) will be standing in the center of the screen (under the
darkened FF8 logo). The 'Escape from Dollet' theme will be playing in
the background. Note that there are a lot of Squalls standing on some
    tiles.

Tile 0: This is where you are after entering the debug mode

Tile 1: Doesn't seem to go anywhere --- upon entering the screen will go
black... that's it, your stuck so don't go here

Tile 2: This tile leads you to another room full of Quistis's, Selphie's
and Rinoa's. Your main character will change (just the look of the main
character-- if you check your menu, everything will still be the same)
upon entering this tile [Go to 2a]

Tile 3: 'Squall' or a duplicate of you is here. If you talk to him, he
will give you an option y/n. If you choose yes, the screen will go black
    and then you're stuck.(Yabuta Page)

Tile 4: Another 'Squall' here. If you choose yes, you'll be 'teleported'
to a room which looks very familiar to 2a. A conversation is going on
here... can't make it out but I do know it's something about the PHS as
well as other options.(Tange Page) [Go to 4a]

Tile 5: Takes you to another room, similar to 4a.(Madea Page) [Go to 5a]

Tile 6: doesn't go anywhere, game freezes if you step on it

    Tile 7: game freezes.(Iriguchi Page)

Tile 8: teleports you to the 'chocobo' room.(Sato Page) [Go to 8a]

Tile 9: teleports you to another room.(Hishinuma Page) [Go to 9a]

Tile A: if you answer YES the screen turns black.(Moriya's Test Page)
