Management of Internet Backbone and Domain Registration in Egypt

The Cabinet IDSC Information & Decision Support Center (IDSC) and the Supreme Council of Universities (FRCU) in collaboration with Egypt Telecom are cooperatively running the internet backbone in Egypt.

* The Supreme Council of Universities is the top-level domain authority in Egypt: .eg
* The EUN provides its services for .edu.eg, .sci.eg, .eun.eg, and .org.eg subdomains.
* The Cabinet IDSC Information & Decision Support Center (IDSC/RITSEC) provides its services for the .gov.eg domain and .com.eg subdomains (.com.eg in cooperation with the ISP's)
* Private sector gateways are providing connectivity services for the commercial sector as well.



Registration Procedures

Basic Procedures to register the DNS (Domain Name System) under the .EG top-level domain:

* Contact EUN, the top-level domain authority in Egypt. (Contact e-mail address is: Domreg@frcu.eun.eg).
* Requirement for registration is to be an "entity operating in Egypt".
*

Only entities connected to the Egyptian backbone are allowed to register under the .eg domain.

* ENtities register under the different sudomains according to the organization type.
*

Generic domain names are owned and managed by governmental organizations like FRCU and IDSC/RITSEC.

Basic Procedures to register the DNS entries under gov.eg

* Contact IDSC, government domain authority.
* Requirement for registration is to be a "governmental sector" (E.g.: ministries, Armed Forces, General Authorities, Governorates).
* After completion of the application, with its attachements, and approval, the request is to be sent to FRCU to register the name of the subdomain.

Basic Procedures to register the DNS entries under com.eg

* Contact IDSC/RITSEC for commercial registration.
* Requirement for registration is to be a private sector organization in Egypt.
* After completion of the application, with its attachements, and approval, the request is to be sent to FRCU to register the name of the subdomain.
